About

Bob Bateman

Robert Bateman is one of Ireland’s most respected and experienced photographers, with a career spanning over six decades. Based in Cork, his work has covered a wide spectrum—from industrial and corporate commissions to architectural, pharmaceutical, and aerial photography. Over the years, Robert’s images have appeared in national and international publications, and his archive includes iconic projects such as the construction of the Jack Lynch Tunnel and the documentation of the Verolme Cork Dockyard from inception through to its final years.

Now in his 80s, Robert remains active behind the lens, focusing exclusively on his lifelong passion: sailing. His photography continues to capture the spirit, spectacle, and stories of Irish sailing, from local club racing to major national events. Whether it’s the spray of a dinghy race or the elegance of a classic yacht, his eye for timing and composition remains as sharp as ever.

Robert’s work is not only a celebration of the sport but also a living archive of Ireland’s maritime culture. His dedication to documenting the sailing community—both ashore and afloat—has made his name synonymous with sailing photography in Ireland.

We invite you to explore the galleries and share in his love for the sea.
